Happy Holidays...
The Department have had a busy and enjoyable term, packed with trips, visits and contributions to various aspects of school life. In September a small group travelled to the Hay Festival in Segovia where they got to interview authors, attend talks, view films, experience work shops and immerse themselves in the whole cultural experience of the Festival.
6th Form students have also had the opportunity to go to see "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and the genuinely terrifying "The Woman in Black" at the theatre in London. Closer to home, Mrs Curry organised for all of Year 7 to see the play version of "Skellig", a novel many of the pupils have been studying in their English lessons.
In November, Miss Zammit and Mr Petrie co-directed the Upper School production of Shakespeare's "Macbeth", with Tom Bull and Elly Viner putting in tremendous performances in the lead roles. This version saw the play set in the world of modern day politics, full of double dealing and bloody treachery. As well as giving the cast the opportunity to understand the play in an entirely new and very detailed way, lots of students took the chance to go and see this very successful production.
The School Carol Service is just about to take place and once again several students will be involved with the readings, as they were at the Words for Music and Remembrance, which took place in the Cathedral in early November.
So, as you can see, there have been plenty of things going on and much to look forward to next term after a little bit of a rest for the pupils, between the holiday work and mock revision, of course....
