Please find a selection of tasks below, all designed to help you in your peparation for the final exam. Please ensure that you make a significant amount of notes for the research tasks. I will be asking you to hand in these hand-written notes on the first Tuesday of term. I do not want to take in printed off sheets from the internet. This is NOT proper, valuable research.

Task 1: Research
Please research and make substantial notes on the following areas:

• Mid-19th Century views on marriage and the law (in Norway) regarding the rights of husbands and wives. (social context and context of production)
• 19th Century Drama and the evolution of social realism as a theatrical style.(context of production, social and theatrical context)
• Responses to early productions of "A Doll's House".(context of reception)
• Notable productions since 1879, recent revivals - look at googled images of productions and youtube videos - and their reviews (context of reception)

Task 2: Research
Please research and make substantial notes on the following areas:

• Post war America and the American Dream (social context and context of production)
  Marxist and conservative critics responses to early productions of "All My Sons" (context of reception)
• Notable productions since 1949, recent revivals - look at googled images of productions and youtube videos - and there reviews. Look at the political resonance of this version for example (context of reception)  http://www.guardian.co.uk/stage/theatreblog/2008/nov/06/arthur-miller-broadway-obama

Dave - could you produce half a side for us on the links between the 2 plays and Classical Theatre?

Task 3: Revision
Make new notes on all your terminology, to ensure you are fully confident about using this in bothsections of the exam.

Task 4: Reading
It is absolutely essaential that you re-read both set texts.

Task 5: Section A Work

Write a critical analysis of the text you have just read.

You should focus on how effectively the writer´s choice of language, structure and form convey attitudes, values and feelings in the writing.

You must demonstrate your knowledge of literary and linguistic concepts through the effective use of terminology. (40 marks)

Spend a total of 1 hour on this.

Task 6: Section B Work
Essay: Family Relationships 
Consider and evaluate thedifferent ways in which the writers of your chosen texts examine the idea of change.
In your response you should:

• critically compare the use of language techniques and literary devices
• comment on and evaluate the contribution made by contextual factors to your understanding of your chosen texts (60 marks) - aim to complete this essay in 1 hour 45 minutes, including planning time.
