Year 11 - Extension & Enrichment Reading List

In order to support your Literature work, here is a list of plays and novels, which you may well find of interest:

  • "A View From The Bridge" & "The Crucible" - Arthur Miller: A chance to look at how Miller combines a cracking storyline with an examination of the weaknesses of the leading male character. Excellent opportunities for comparisons with the character of Willy in "Death of A Salesman".

  • "A Room of One's Own" - Virginia Woolf: One of the most famous 20th Century explorations of the position of women in society and well worth looking at alongside "The Yellow Wallpaper".

  • "Dracula" - Bram Stoker & "Frankenstein" - Mary Shelley: Two of the most well known examples of Gothic Literature and gripping reads they are too.

  • "The Bloody Chamber" - Angela Carter: Modern gothic at its weird, racy, unsettling best.

  • "To Kill A Mockingbird" - Harper Lee: The classic American "Coming of Age" novel and well worth considering alongside your reading of "The Taste of Watermelon".

  • "The Midwich Cuckoos" & "The Day of the Triffids" - John Wyndham: Perhaps the  two best known works of the author of "Meteor".

  • "Fareinheit 451" - Ray Bradbury: More great science fiction from the writer of "There Will Come Soft Rains".
