This revision schedule is designed to help you by directing you towards certain activities on certain days.
Try to keep to this schedule and the suggested times for each activity.
Please use the HCS English Department IGCSE Webpage at
https://sites.google.com/site/igcseeng/ to support your revision and provide you with more practice essays and general advice. Have a look at this if you are unsure about how to tackle any parts of the Language Paper in particular.
I suggest you buy and use a new A4 Notebook, exclusively for all your English revision.
Remember, you cannot do this properly in front of your computer or the television...and turn off your ipod and mobile too whilst you´re at it!

35 mins: Re-read "Report to Wordsworth". Then using the following sentence as your opening, write the next 100 words, "Report to Wordsworth" is very effective in capturing the damage man is doing to the earth because...."
20 mins: (JBP's group) Start re-reading "Death of A Salesman" - remember to always think about characters, themes and dramatic techniques used by Miller. Always keep your A4 pad handy to jot down any notes that come to mind.
(JJC, MRW, VT, JAC's group) Do exactly the same as above but for 'Journey's End'
40 mins: Re-read "Lament" and "On The Grasshopper and The Cricket". In 2 columns, make a bullet point list of all the different ways nature is presented in each poem and the techniques used. These could take the form of single word quotes or your own observations as you work through the poems.
20 mins Continue reading "Death of A Salesman". Remember the first question will always ask you to look at an extract, so as you are reading through imagine what you would say if asked to write about how any particular passage "...is made effective". Try to look for key areas you would highlight and quote if you had to write an essay on a particular character.
( All other groups, please do the same for 'Journey's End')
60 mins: Continue reading and making notes as suggested above on "Death of a Salesman".
( All other groups, please do the same for 'Journey's End')
60 mins: Re-read "So, We'll Go No More A-Roving", "Sonnet 43" and "First Love". Choose two of these poems and write a 400 word essay exploring how the choice of words in your two poems powerfully convey the poet's feelings.
50 mins Go to the IGCSE website (see above) and download the first of the Language Practice Papers. Do Questions 1 and 2.
50 mins Complete the summary question on the paper you downloaded yesterday.
60 mins Use the IGCSE website to run through all the techniques and approaches needed to answer Question 1 of the Language Paper. i.e How to write an article. How to write a speech etc etc. Click through the past papers (there are a lot available to download and view) and familiarise yourself with the typical passages and the wordings of Question 1. Remember to keep a record in your notebook of what you have looked at and any questions you might want to ask your teacher when you get back.
